Anyone who loves the mountains should experience sunrise on the summit at least once. Hiking in the tranquillity of the morning hours, as nature awakens all around you. Experience the inspiring panorama of the Kitzbühel Alps and the Hohe Tauern. An uplifting feeling.
Pleasure during a Salzburg Alpine summer
Hiking towards the summit when it is still night-time and tranquil, experiencing how nature awakens; then your reward is seeing the sun rise behind the mountain backdrop of the Kitzbühel Alps and the Hohe Tauern, which creates a unique atmosphere that you will remember for an eternity.
Heading to the summits together
It is not just your landlord Toni Hasenauer who is a keen mountain buff and qualified hiking guide – but so many of the team in Der Unterschwarzachhof too. We know the Salzburg mountains so well. In the summer months we offer interested guests staying at the 4 star Superior Hotels Unterschwarzachhof a challenging mountain hike to see the sun rise on the 2095m Tristkogel at the head of the valley in Hinterglemm, as a guided hike option. Safe and learning lots of interesting information about the flora and fauna, we take you to the destination of this mountain tour.
Well prepared for summit joy
The evening before all participants meet at the lobby bar, and find out from Jacky the owner what is required for the hike and what a mountain tour is all about. Then its straight to your cosy, warm bed, because you need to get up early the following morning.
Out from under the duvet early to enjoy sunrise on the mountain
The time you start depends on when the sun rises. In the height of summer, the hiking group meets around 03:00 in the morning in the lobby, where a ready-prepared packed snack and hiking guide awaits participants. Then it's to the Lindlingalm in the hotel bus, which is where we start from.
Mysterious ambience during the ascent
The darkness and tranquillity of the early morning spreads a mysterious ambience. Kitted out with head torches, the group heads for the Tristkogel, as it becomes ever lighter and all around nature is awakening. The birds greet the new day with their singing, the marmots are already keeping watch and it’s not rare for hikers to catch sight of chamois flitting in the tricky terrain.
Genuine summit joy at sunrise
Now all your effort and any tiredness is forgotten and you head to the summit cross, in almost meditative tranquillity. Having reached the highest point of the mountain, you feel so close to the sky. Upon arrival at the Tristkogel summit cross we register in the ‘summit book’ and celebrate with a summit schnapps.
Sunrise on the summit
When at sun rise in the early morning the mountains glow in an orange, red light and the darkness slowly yields, new perspectives open up. The natural spectacle that is experienced here is filled with gratitude and humility. The night-time hike, filled with sections that are strenuous and require effort was worth it and you can feel proud of yourself. What you experience here will stay with you forever.
Heading back into the valley happy and content
The return hike proceeds via the Hochtorsee, across lush Alpine pastures and past an Alpine inn complete with dairy. We take a short detour here to watch the farmer making Alpine cheese and sample some too. In the midst of the tranquil, deep green Alpine pastures at Hochtorsee we enjoy a leisurely snack, and fortify ourselves for the descent.
Relaxing breakfast after the mountain tour
Back in the valley Jacky is waiting for guests with an extensive Alpine breakfast at the farm or brunch on the hotel terrace. Here any hunger is sated and thoughts recounted enthusiastically. Weary feet now get to relax – at the pool, in the cosy loungers or with a lovely foot massage – while thoughts turn to hiking to the summit of the Tristkogel.
Addicted to summit joy
Anyone who has ever experienced this wonderful adventure wants to feel this elation again – maybe next year…
